Company designs machine to recycle polystyreneIntercon Solutions of Chicago has designed a new machine to recycle polystyrene in addition to its electronics waste recycling services.Intercon Solutions said it has designed a new expanded polystyrene densification machine using high volume extruder technology. The machine compresses polystyrene into tough slabs, or ingots, by processing it through a crusher, multiple heat bands and an extruder. The company said the process is "safe and clean, with no harmful emissions." "We had to establish a method for recycling what the nation is using right now, and Styrofoam isn´t something consumers are going to stop using anytime soon. We recognized the need, and went to work, creating the first solution of its kind in our industry," said Intercon Solutions CEO Brian Brundage. Since 1987, Intercon Solutions has demanufactured and recycled electronic waste. The company includes a 250,000-square-foot facility in Chicago Heights, Ill., and sites in Alabama, California, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, Ontario, British Columbia and England.
